Ten Pounds, One Month, One Challenge...the winners are announced!
The thousands of young people who took part in Make Your Mark with a Tenner have justifed the belief shown in them by competition founder Oli Barrett and sponsor The Entrepreneur Channel. Participating students were given £10 and a month to generate as much profit and social impact as they could.
Proving that they can be trusted – and contrary to reports of UK kids being the worst in Europe – over £75,000 of the original £100,000 loan fund has already been returned. Profits have either been kept by the participants, donated to good causes or re-invested to continue with their idea.
The 2007 winners
First place was awarded to Fazila Dadabhoy of Walthamstow School for Girls, London, for her doughnut-making scheme.
Second place went to Richard Robson Sherfield School, Hook, Hampshire, who challenged others in his class to think of ways to raise as much money as they could for his chosen charity.
Third place was taken by Victoria Curl of Roundwood Park School, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, who sold cakes, snacks and stationery to pupils at her school.

The resounding message from students and teachers alike is that everybody taking part had discovered something valuable about the world of enterprise. Delivering social purpose was a big theme. Half of the 50 winning entries either specifically designed their ideas to benefit others or donated their profits, aiding good causes both at home and abroad. Andrew Reynolds, who is donating the money for Make Your Mark with a Tenner, said: “We need to stop being afraid of our young and stop putting them down all the time. I want to prove that they're far from being the worst in Europe, with the right encouragement they have the potential to be the best.
"That’s why I thought it was time an entrepreneur like me put their money where their mouth is, to allow young people to prove that they’re not all a bunch of violent hoodies, but dynamic and enterprising young people when given the chance who just happen to be young. And this is just the beginning - I’d like to see other entrepreneurs do the same. With £100,000 this year, why not a million next time!”
An announcement regarding future plans for Make Your Mark with a Tenner will be made on Social Enterprise Day (15 November 2007) in Enterprise Week.
